Privacy Policy

Last update: December 15, 2025

Flakes is built with privacy as a core principle. We believe your browsing data belongs to you and only you.

The Short Version

  • Flakes is free to use without registration
  • We do not track your browsing activity
  • AI features require an optional account and subscription
  • We do not use cookies or analytics for tracking
  • All your browsing data stays on your device

What We Do

The only network request Flakes makes to our servers is to check for application updates. This request contains:

  • Your current app version (to determine if an update is available)
  • Your operating system version (to ensure compatibility)

No personal information, browsing history, or identifiable data is transmitted during this check.

Local Data

Flakes stores the following data locally on your device:

  • Your browsing history and visited sites
  • Session data and open tabs
  • Application preferences and settings
  • AI-generated content (if AI features are enabled)

This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to export it.

Accounts & Subscriptions

Flakes is free to use without creating an account. However, AI features require an account and an active subscription. You can sign in using:

  • Email
  • Apple
  • Google

When you create an account, we collect and store:

  • Your email address
  • Your name (if provided by sign-in provider)
  • Subscription status and billing information

This information is used solely to manage your subscription and provide AI features. We do not share your account information with third parties except for payment processing.

Flakes AI

Subscription users have access to Flakes AI, our API service that powers AI features in the browser. When you use AI features, page content is sent to our servers for processing. We do not store or use this content beyond providing the requested functionality.

Alternatively, you can bring your own API keys. These keys are stored securely in macOS Keychain and never sent to our servers or used for any other purpose.

Ad Blocking

Ad blocking uses uBOL filter rules that are downloaded on first use and updated periodically. The filtering itself is performed locally—no browsing data is sent to external services.
